I had a girlfriend who could talk to anybody about anything.
When she decided to leave town, she sold her moped in three days by the simple expedient of asking everyone she met, “Do you know anybody who wants to buy a moped?”
She was great as a “photographer’s assistant”. I set up a tripod and was preparing to take a night picture of a theater with her and her girlfriend in front of the marquee, when all the lights were turned off. I started to break down my setup. She came over and asked why.
“No lights.”
She crossed the street to the theater and asked them to turn on several thousand watts of lights, just for her – and they did.
My dad was an extreme extrovert. Very charming and charismatic. I’m an introvert, but I’ve always been able to channel my dad’s ability and leadership when I need it. It shocks the heck out of people when they put me in a leadership role because they thought I won’t rock the boat.
I’m usually an introvert but I often enjoy talking to strangers. I especially like starting conversations in elevators, about elevators – sort of meta-elevator small talk.

My late husband was the friendly one in our relationship. He would say hello and strike up a conversation with anybody.

I was on a bus when a guy sat down next to me and said, “There sure are a lot of psychopaths around here.”
“How do you know?” I asked nervously.
“There are signs for them everywhere, aren’t there?“ he said, sounding irritated.
20 minutes of awkward silence ensued.
Then he got off the bus, stopping to grab his bicycle. That’s when I realized he’d said, “There sure are a lot of cycle paths around here.“
