Bailing out Oil Makers would just put fuel on the problem, and cause a LOT of gas to be expelled from around the nations. This would cause many OPEC nations to stop their rigs, thus, causing the prices to rise, and the circle restarts

BC & channce i don’t think so. Allan has talked about seeking work on other sites, while Joe Allen Doty seems to be a (possibly) retired armed services veteran. of course, i’m pretty naive and could well be mistaken.

The oil industry has been getting essentially “free” oil from federal reserves in the Gulf of Mexico(royalty free) for years, and onshore fees are far below market value. Anyone thinking the oil industry is “over-regulated” has feathers for brains.

Can you at least agree that refineries are over-regulated?

The use of oil and coal for energy protects our forests….if not for the use of oil and coal for energy, all of our forests would have been stripped clear many decades ago…for an example of this, google earth along the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the Haiti end of the island of Hispaniola has been stripped of its forests because the populace cannot afford nor get oil for heating and cooking. Next time you hug a tree, you should thank the oil industry for helping it avoid becoming cooking and/or heating fuel…..

EVERY industry is too regulated. The list of alphabet agencies that have jurisdiction over one or another aspect of EVERY business, large or small, is astonishing. But since it all came on in small steps over the course of decades, people have come to accept it as the given. Like when people ignore the growing mole until it’s too late to save them.

Notice the clever scam: Whenever the inevitable unintended consequences of this or that regulation pop up, it becomes the excuse for the next round of regulations. Lather, rinse, repeat. Whatever the level of regulation, it’s never enough.

Americans have almost totally lost the concept that a free country should have a free economy. The proper role of government is to put the Bernie Madoffs in jail, not to make honest businessmen have to prove their innocence.

“companies that make our lives so comfortable” - an unintended consequence, I’m sure. They’re working to correct that.

“honest businessmen” - not quite an oxymoron, but far too rare a commodity.

If those “honest businessmen” wouldn’t keep pushing the edge and exploiting loopholes, way beyond ethical mores, then the heaps of regulations would not be necessary. (Yes, I agree there is way too much regulation, but there is a reason for every little bit of it.)
