Actually, the real Davey Jones was a 16th century London tavern keeper that used to drug unsuspecting patrons. When they passed out he would throw them into the basement (which were called lockers back in those days). In the morning the victim would find himself at sea. Davey Jones was a kidnapper. And he made a lot of coin doing it, too.
