Back around 1960, Bob Newhart had a stand-up routine about his dislike of flying. “I whimper all through the flight.” He went on to say that it derived from his ride with an extremely low-budget airline, which kept its prices low by doing without what the pilot referred to as “frills and extras.” Things such as radar, and maintenance, and seats for the passengers … and a flight crew that knows for sure which button will restart the engines when they unexpectedly stop in mid-flight…. “I think its the third button on the left … no, wait; the cabin lights are going out — try the third button on the right….”
