This strip is absolutely amazing. The minimal backgrounds, and now the kids leaning on a fence…I can see why Charles M. Schulz recommended Crosby’s strip, and proudly stated that he was influenced by it. It’s a great influence.
Interesting. Doffing the cap is a symbol of inferiority and deference. Americans deliberately discarded such class distinctions in the 19th century, I thought.
