Well, I’m finally stumped. Does anyone know what the nurse is doing in panel two?
My initial thoughts are:It appears transparent, unless what I’m reading as her index finger behind the square is just a squiggle. So, some sort of magnifier she is looking through to detect spots like measles or other rashes?
Or is it a card the nurse reads to time the thermometer. Wristwatches in the ‘30s were still fairly novel, luxury items, so it occurs to me there must have been some way to standardize the timing a temperature reading in the absence of a handy clock.
Or, is she just passing time admiring herself? chuckle.

Anyway, anyone remember/know what she is doing?

When I was his age still getting the thermometer in the rectum. The only way to get the most accurate basal reading of internal temperature.
