And they’re quite fond of using their pointy teeth… a lot… on our drip lines. Had to replace about 30 feet of drip line this year, in 4 different places. A few years ago, we left a hose stretched over the lawn to drain and found it moved 30 or more feet. Then moved again. Then I tried to use it (it was there) to hose down something and discovered a bazillion little holes along the whole length. I think they were just playing keep away.
I had an encounter with a pregnant Raccoon! I pulled out of my garage, and look up to see a raccoon going in the garage before the door went down. She would not leave and I had to go to work….called 911 and stated it was not an emergency but needed help….a cop came within minutes and when he saw it, he laughed…she wasn’t responding to his making loud noises, so he told me to go in the front door and bang on the utility door…so I did, and it took about 5 minutes before she left…oy. We both giggled over the whole incident.
We had a pet racoon when I was a kid. Mischievous as all get out, and a lot of fun. Bandit and our Dachshund, Pretzel, were fast friends. Pretzel (My Grandfather named her. She looked like a burnt pretzel.) would defend him against the neighborhood dogs.
They are destructive vermin!!! They dug holes in my roof and caused leaks inside and gnawed through a neighbors roof/ceiling and fell into the bathroom—-UGH!!!!!
Unfortunately, they are much cuter than rats, & some people aren’t as smart. They feed the vermin. A close encounter such as an attic attack should wake them up though.

In the old days of two piece cans and lids I had to take a stick to the curb to beat on the lid because the racoons were waiting for me.
