@Bruce4671 – Fair point about the hyperbole of her weight issues and I agree, as well, that she should do her job or resign and let someone who is less conflicted about the work step in to replace her.
Obama DID enforce the Defense of Marriage act, as he is required to do. He did not DEFEND the Defense of Marriage act, which was completely in his rights, as he deemed it unconstitutional, as it proved to be by those who make the decision.
@Charlie555 – The will of the people in the 50’s was to have Jim Crowe laws and those were unconstitutional. The will of the people prior to the 70s was to Segregate students.
The courts are not charged with winning a popularity contest. That is why Federal judges are put on the bench unelected. The courts are charged with interpreting the constitution and making sure that is upheld and applied equally to all citizens.
The people in Ms. Davis’ county may not want to allow Same Sex Marriage but they don’t get to choose that. Our country was carefully designed to prevent the Majority from trodding on the rights of the minority. I, for one, still marvel at the foresight and wisdom of our founding Fathers.
I also marvel at attitudes like yours that complain when the courts uphold the rights of others who don’t disagree with you.
This is about the rights of those same sex marriage individuals to expect equal treatment under the law; the same as heterosexual couples.
I don’t like the super-exaggeration of her “weight problem”, but Article Vi of the Constitution she swore to uphold is adequate reason she should have resigned her office, if she wanted to maintain her oath of office and “good faith”.
If a Vegan clerk were to deny GUN PERMITS or hunting licenses based on religious beliefs (Hindu, Seventh-day Adventist, Jain or just matter of conscience), the religious conservatives would be calling for the death penalty. If a conservative Wahhabi Sunni Muslim clerk from the Saudi tradition were to deny drivers’ licenses to “Christian” women based on their religious beliefs that women shouldn’t drive, these religious conservatives would be calling for the invasion of another country. If an orthodox Jewish postal carrier refused to deliver Christmas cards, these religious extremists would be whining about the “War on Christmas.” And if a strict, “traditional marriage” Catholic clerk opposed to divorce were behind the desk, s/he would have had to deny Kim Harris’ license for marriages #2, #3 and #4. http://danizier.wordpress.com/2011/04/21/christianity-and-culture/

Kim has shown herself to be a Dimwit and Bigot but I don’t think they needed to portray her as Enormous. That seems a little childish.
