One of the least pleasant memorable episodes in my life was having the flu. In the winter. With lots of cold rain (standard for winter, there). And having the water line fail. While we had a babe in (cloth) diapers. I walked up to the intake, about 1/2 mile or so and about 100 feet higher, three or four steps and then take a break to breathe and cry. Then three or four more… etc. Where I found it plugged. That was actually a relief since it meant I didn’t have to figure out why ELSE it wasn’t working. After unplugging, I walked back. Three or four steps then stop to breathe and cry. At least it was downhill. And I couldn’t GET any wetter (yes I was wearing rain gear, but I was running a fever and walking in a stream part of the time, and falling down). The awfullest 18 hours (internal clock) or 2 hours (real clock) of my life until then, and still a contender. Spouse WAS home, so I didn’t have to also deal with the diapers themselves…
