Odd, I thought Pac-Man was created by Bally-Midway…..or was that just the US distributor?

Yes! Midway was just the distributor. Atari in a sense has NOTHING to do with Pac-Man. It is just one of the many game companies/systems the game was available on. Perhaps one of the more famous in the early era, I had it on 2600 myself. I can only assume John Deering also played it on Atari back in the day and for whatever reason thinks that they are a software developer, when actually they don’t really make games per say, but is a publisher. Pac-Man for Atari 2600 was made by a man named Todd Frye. Bonus: Pac-Man’s real “”English” name (he’s Japanese originally of course) is “Puck Man”. (He was labeled as such in the European market as well.

Pac-Man (which was supposed to be “Puck-Man”) was originated by Namco, a Japanese company. For a good part of the history of video games, everything came from Japan.

The main reason for Pac-Man’s popularity was that it was one of the few arcade games you could play while still holding your drink.

If I remember correctly, they changed it to Pac because they were worried that some people might try to alter the word “Puck” on the machines.

He’s based off of a pizza. That was the inspiration.
