Those are not the Magicicadas, for sure. They emerge every 13 to 17 years. If those are 7 year Cicadas, they are a different brood altogether, and there wouldn’t be many of them. I think he meant to say 17 years.

There are different types of cicadas with different cycles. Though the ones currently emerging here are he 17 year variety.

There are 13,17 and 1 year cicadas. Thet pop up in different parts of the country according to their cycle. Brood numbers also come into play.
