Now there’s some left turn logic.

Helton and Co. have ruined NASCAR. Mr. Francis, Sr. and Jr. worked hard to make NASCAR what it was. No longer what it was. Declining attendance. Taking races away from traditional tracks (Darlington during Labor Day weekend!), driving good people away (Humpy Wheeler), the list goes on. Sad, really.

Why does it take horrific injuries or deaths to force sports authorities to safety adaptations that common sense would dictate ?

There hasn’t been a Stock Car in NASCAR in decades. BTW I make right turns too when I’m driving.

But who watches Formula One or Indy Car? Except for the 500? They call it the Greatest Spectacle in Racing for a reason. They all decried Dan Wheldon’s death, but BOTH those organizations’ vehicles are inherently more deadly than NASCAR’s “stock” cars. When NASCAR DOES go to road tracks, there is little, if any, quality RACING (defined as close quarters racing with opportunities to pass). Some of the ovals are boring, and NASCAR needs to fix that. A little less stickling regulation might help!
