    I wonder if this could end if schools made scholarships mandatory four-years. You opt out early, you pay back the rest of the scholarship.

    Point made, although this year’s draft is supposed to be much deeper than usual (last year’s, for instance, has thus far been a joke).

    They have to pay the top picks like they were already stars. The top picks demand long term guaranteed money (4 years = undergrad years) at which time most would, if still in the league, show where their potential is and enter free agency. It would appear to me that the NBA is it’s own very expensive development institution.
