Holding is a rule I’ll never understand. If the offensive lineman has his hands tight to his body and he grabs the defensive lineman, it’s not considered holding. If the arms are extended and he grabs the lineman, it’s considered holding. What’s the difference? There isn’t any difference.
As it is, playing time – REAL time actually expended with the ball in play – is only about 22.5 minutes. The rest of the time is getting off the ground, signal calling, etc. Don’t believe me ? Take a stopwatch and time the game from just the snap to the down. Soccer, on the other hand, is 45 minutes of pretty much continued play.
