the Celtics used to play in the old Boston Garden which was not air-conditioned. Playoffs were late May or June and fog would come up from the ice rink under the parquet basketball court.
Top-level bandy has been played outside for decades. (The rink for bandy is the same size as a soccer field, so the first indoor rink for bandy wasn’t built until 1980.)
Final score: Habs 5, Bruins 1. First “Winter Classic” I’ve seen in years and first involving a Canadian team. But I am so over the idea of outdoor games. And overtime. And shootouts. And southern American franchises that shouldn’t have teams. And yes, I am a HUGE hockey fan.

I’ve been to outdoor hockey games. Even managed to last a whole period once.

I’d pay to see that.

They had one in Vancouver a couple of years back. Outdoor hockey in 45 degree (F.) weather. Definitely not cool.

An NBA game calling traveling and pushing would be unique

I’m not a big basketball fan, but I’d pay to see some of these NBA gazillionaires shivering out there.

In parts of Alaska and Canada, it get too cold to play hockey outdoors — when it’s cold enough, ice skates don’t function.
