In July, 2006, on the way to Glacier Park’s Iceberg Lake, we encountered a group of hikers coming the other way who said a grizzly sow and her cub were on the trail ahead. So, we all got off the trail. First the cub came racing by, then the sow, much slower. We got her to change course, and after that was over, the “lead” hiker in the other group (at least he pretended to be the leader), for some reason started fooling with his pepper spray. All of a sudden his wife let out a scream. He had sprayed it directly in her eyes. I never carried the stuff; figured it would just make the bear mad if I used it.My companion and I decided to go to Ptarmigan Lake instead (weren’t sure where the sow or cub had gone, the encounter was where to two trails diverge).

Speaking of “big”, Tank isn’t nearly as big as he used to be. He not only lost weight, he seems to have lost height!
