More important question is how do you get an owner or general manager to recognize an athlete should retire instead of encouraging them to keep playing by throwing money at them?
Like Barry Bonds. Or Vince Young.
Although I’ll mention that knowing it’s time to retire, and actually retiring are two different things that often are unrelated.
LeBron is less than 13 months older than Aaron Rodgers.
Most just retire after they get an injury that prevents them from playing again.
The unsigned free agent route seems common in the NHL, or body damage so bad they never get off IR list.
