I’ll probably say a very umpopular thing here, but fans do deserve this. They always complain that their favourite player don’t play enough, and then they complain when the guy gets injured. Guys have always got injured, injuries define an athlete’s career at least to the same degree that talent does, and it’s always been this way. The human body is STILL not made to throw baseballs in the 100’s or being hit full speed by a 270 lbs edge rusher. The difference is that in the ole days (that never existed) nobody really cared about a guy when he got injured, and you were called a sissy if you didn’t play through pain and broken ankles. Today’s fans moan about prices and off-the-charts salaries, but then crowd arenas and buy original jerseys and spend fortunes in betting.
Tickets cost a fortune. For many, a live major league game is a once-in-life time experience. I feel for the family that scrimps to get tickets to see their child’s hero play, only to find him sitting out.
Carpel tunnel is a real injury preventable by “sitting out” occasionally, but in the real world you don’t get paid. Industrial accidents become more frequent when a person is over worked, but in the real world you don’t get paid if you don’t work. In the real world you’re not handed $50M when you walk in the door. Put even $1M away and if you’re injured in your first season, you still have more than most other hard working people.
I don’t like the injuries, but that is the nature of the game; make the game safer. I’m all for improving safety. But sports are entertainment and the folks pay to see stars.
Murray is right, there is no way to tell when an injury will happen. Dan Marino had his Achilles tendon pop after throwing a pass, with no defenders around him. And, he was playing in old Cleveland Stadium; which had the most natural surface in all football.

Most coaches in the NBA and the NFL Suck at limiting time for their star players, especially the older ones. I’ve seen it again, again, and again.

Not to mention pitchers who break their hands punching the dugout wall after something goes wrong.
Chicago Cubs once had a star pitcher named Zambrano they had to get rid off because he’d implode whenever somebody made an error behind him

Do you remember the Sooner RB that got a leg/foot/knee tore up (never played again) in his 1st pro game? A long time ago ….
