Lord Greystoke is busy making “friends” with the nasty “neighbors” in typical colonial fashion, while junior’s mama must think she’s in a lovely forest not too far from Buckingham Palace!
Well remember Burroughs was writing his story in 1914 when the expectation of gorillas and other great apes was that they were slavering bloodthirsty brutes. Plus, at heart Burroughs was a science fiction writer who wouldn’t let fact get in the way of a good story.

I would think that Tarzan falls under the classification of fiction, not fantasy; and not science fiction either—that would be John Carter of Mars.
