If this holds true to any of Burroughs’ plot lines, the skull will have been a messenger carrying information about some English explorer who was lost and captured by the people of a forgotten city.
He’s been going north, so this would be North Africa, the Sahara Desert? Fun. He should be finding people making TV ads for Subaru, Jeep, Hyundai…no, this was long ago. Nash Rambler, Corvair, TR-4, etc. This skull may once have belonged to a Corvair driver. You never know.
It’s the skull of Sam the riverboat man and father of David Berkowitz aka The .44 Caliber killer! There’s no telling what kind of dead, dried up stuff you’ll find in the desert…………

If he’s in vacation, why go to desert? Why not a nice island with sun and sand and water?
