Scotch Bridge is played with a deck of 52 cards. I have played the game with 4 players and with up to twelve. You deal as many cards as is agreed upon. You need a scorekeeper with paper and pen (or pencil). One card is turned over and it’s suit will be trump for that hand. The person to the left of the dealer must say how many tricks they think they can take. It must be exact! If they take less, or more than they bid then they “go down” and the scorer gives them no points. You go around the table until everybody has bid and their bids have been marked down. Then the person to the left of the dealer leads a card and the player to their left plays next. It becomes a strategy game. If you are out of a suit (void) you can use a trump if you need a trick or you can slough a high card if you passed (bid zero) and are worried about taking a trick with it.
Scoring: you get 10 points for not “going down” plus 1 point for every trick you bid and took. For example: passing and not taking a trick is 10, bidding 1 and only taking 1 is 11 while bidding 1 and taking none is 0. After all the cards dealt have been played, the deal passes to the left and this person deals one less card for example, if the first deal was 7 cards, the second deal would be 6 cards. The game continues until you are down to dealing 1 card. The person with the most points wins. This game has also been called “Oh Hell”, but the rules I looked up under Google were very different.

Wow, they got that fat in a matter of hours? I thought they had been there for days. I hope Annie finds them before the fishmonger is bankrupt!

I feel very sorry for Annie; not only does she have to go looking for those two hooligans, she’ll be on the hook for all the fish they ate!
