We discovered what my grandma’s “old person smell” was when she came to live with us. She never washed her hands…just dabbled her fingertips in the water from the tap because she honestly didn’t think she got all that dirty. She didn’t use deoderant either, for the same reason. After she moved in, and her grandkids started washing and ironing the clothes for her, and her daughter got her some “nice smelling” deoderant, things improved a lot. A healthy balanced diet helped too. She had been living on a tiny pension, and when mom found out just how tiny it really was was when she moved in with us. The fresh produce from the garden and not worrying about stretching the money from her check turned her health around in short order.Pride kills.
Click-to-enlarge image available from here. The Perfume Maker, not to be confused with The Perfume Makers, which recently sold at auction for $677,791, is described in the Lot Notes of its auction page (it only fetched $276,856, but that was 10 years earlier). Both are by this artist (I wonder what he got for them). A different coloration image is available from here; this also has an online collection. The artist’s Google translated German Wikipedia page (the English version has the wrong Rudolf Ernst) and Wikipedia collection. So far, only work by this artist to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.

Even if those are onions, I’ll take that over Ben Gay, any day.

“Santa” looks a bit haggard there. Good thing only one kid waiting to sit on his lap today……but it’s just June 22.

this is a beautiful painting! I love the intensity of the colors and the subject too.

Painting repeated here. The artist’s English Wikipedia page is now correct, but currently has little information.
