Those debates between the Ruffled Collars and the Ironed Collars were always quite raucous.

A click-to-enlarge image can be found at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog (yesterday). A smaller, borderless image can be found here.Four Governors of the Arquebusiers’ Civic Guard (link shows pertinent Wikipedia page) is shown with a different coloration, interactively enlargeable image (click-to-enlarge image found here), and described (click More details), by its current-location page. Here is a translation of that description:

Group portrait of the four governors at the Kloveniersdoelen, Amsterdam, 1642, sitting around a table: Albert Coenraetsz Burgh, Jan Claesz Vlooswijck, Pieter Reael, and Jacob Willekens. Jacob Pietersz Nachtglas, the innkeeper, brings them the silver gilded cup, a buffalo horn (see inv BK-AM-12). At right, on the wall, is the framed emblem of the Arquebusiers, the claw.Another description, currently here (may have moved here), mentions this painting by Rembrandt. Longer discussions of the strip painting can be found here and here.Another different coloration image can be found here. The artist’s Wikipedia page (Google translated Dutch Wikipedia page has more) and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).First work, by this artist, to appear here.
