that does seem like a lame prize (unlike the old-fashioned ones which look like figurines from a Monopoly board game play piece)

Oh I so agree! I still have a little plastic horse I got many ( ok very many) years ago when there were real prizes inside!

And, the popcorn itself is barely edible. I’m surprised they’re still in business.

Toys are less thrilling (Yeah, I know; I’m an adult now) and I’m pretty sure they cut costs by using less peanuts. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with all those comments. I haven’t bought Cracker Jacks in years. Quality and taste are down along with the “prizes”. There are so many good candied popcorns available it makes no sense.

I always wished I would get the magnifying glass, but I never did. My brother got one, and wouldn’t even let me touch it. We were like 14 and 12.

I haven’t seen a box of cereal with a toy inside in almost as long. Even they are more likely to print a web address on the back of the box. I’m afraid the era of toys inside is long behind us.

It’s cheaper than getting sued because someone walked on one in the dark. Or worse.

In “1941” the prize in a box of Popper-Jacks was a compass. Slim Pickens swallowed it to keep it away from the Japanise submarine crew. They then forced him to drink prune juice.
