The Born Loser by Art & Chip Sansom Mr. Veeblefester: Blast that miserable water hazard - it destroyed my score! Brutus: A bad round isn't worth getting upset over! Brutus: You shouldn't be so caught up in whether you have the best score! Brutus: Remember what Grantland Rice, the famous sportswriter, said... Brutus: It's not whether you win or lose that's important, it's how you play the game! Mr. Veeblefester: Well, I say it's not whether you win or lose that's important... Mr. Veeblefester: It's whether I win or lose!
Story is told of a general commanding a nearby military installation who could usually be found on the golf course (and who had a helipad put on the course in front of his office so he could get into those quick rounds quicker). As the story has it, a lieutenant not only beat him at golf one day, pretty much showed him up. That lieutenant had orders transferring him to some really crappy assignment before the next sun came up.
