Oh, man, we once had to diagram the first sentence of the preamble to the Constitution of the United States, when I was a kid. It’s not often you get to use a protractor in English class. Oh, boy!
In high school I just didn’t “get” diagramming sentences. Just like word problems in math. Loved studying grammar but the diagramming was a big nope. And one day something just “clicked” in my brain. Loudly. Then I started making up complex sentences just to be able to parse them!

I studied three foreign languages. Spanish, Latin, and English. I did terrible at all of them
