He could utter the word, she could say “Please don’t swear” and it would have been funny!

I’m pretty sure this can’t be removed as this is a reprint of a comic book/graphic novel. Consider it an exercise in character development. Despite being an exotic dancer, the widow has a sense of propriety. (she might also have a stick up her *, but let’s wait on developments.)

    “The Lord”? Which lord

Humanity has invented such a profusion of “lords” and “gods” that they would populate a large town all by themselves.

The only thing that has been omitted is any way to determine if any of them is real. Of course those who “believe” have a way out of the little problems of Proof, or Fact.

Since no proof exists at all, about any of them, any reference to being offended by an insult to such a hypothetical sky fairy is purely based on the fantasy of belief.

Of course the fact that it is all a bunch of fantasy doesn’t keep the true believers, such as ISIS, from killing anyone who “offends” the god du jour.

Someday this so-called society will figure out that one of the basic essential fundamental requirements for civilization is to limit beliefs to one’s personal life, and never, never, never attempt to force anyone else to “believe” in the stuff you believe in.

Of course the next step is to simply realize that believing in something has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it is real. That is the realm of fact and proof, not belief.
