Teacher: Terrance, can you tell the class what positions your hands should be at on the steering wheel?
Right student: Yes. 10 and 2. ...And also 1, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 11.
I was taught 10 and 2. Heck there were no seat belts to buckle when I first started driving. But things change. Here’s an excerpt from an insurance company’s web site..Two schools of thought are prevalent when talking about positioning of hands on the steering wheel. The old school wisdom was to position hands at 10 and 2 o’clock. As air bags became common, this led to the wrist and arm fractures when air bags deployed and arms were flung into rear view mirrors or A-pillars. To avoid that occurrence, many safety advocates now recommend positioning hands at 9 and 3 o’clock on the steering wheel.

But, but, but… that doesn’t leave any hands free for my cell phone, my coffee, or my makeup.

I liked the poster in the comic better, don’t ink and drive.

But you need two for accelerator and clutch. That leaves 6 hands for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12!
