Joe - In my experience as a farmer’s daughter, troughs were usually wood, tanks were metal. Wooden water troughs work okay, because the wood swells with the water, so the cracks get closed. My ancestors used wooden barrels for centuries to hold liquids, so it isn’t exactly a new concept.
