    I think salad bars are just hopelessly compromised.

    A lot of them are gone now since the pandemic. While I love(d) a good salad bar, I always hated touching the tongs after all those other people. Yeah, I’m a bit of a germaphobe.

    Yeah – I never had any trouble, but you do wonder. Had some ideas – gloves or napkins near the bowl; tongs attached to a retracting chain, so they dangle over the bowls;

    If you’re that paranoid, why go to a salad bar? Or any buffet for that matter. I worked in food service for 30 years, I know how quickly things like that can get dirty…how often people complain. I’d always ask why they ordered the salad bar then? We had so many different salads on the menu that they could order, and soups, but no, they had to order the soup/salad bar so they could make their own, and over eat…then ask for a box to take home their leftovers, which is never allowed…it says clearly, “All you can eat here, in one sitting, at the restaurant.” But you’ll just throw away the rest…yes ma’am, we will…next time don’t overload your plate.
