Prozac (fluoxetine) is an antidepressant and for people who are afflicted with clinical depression (like me) it is a lifesaver – in some cases literally. It does not work immediately and thus would not calm someone down like a sedative would. Depression is not a “personality trait” let alone abnormal. It is an actual disease that can be treated and, if left untreated, can end in suicide. People with depression should not be stigmatized or belittled and their disease should not be treated with mockery. And to the inevitable commenter who will tell me to lighten up because “it’s only a comic strip”: putting something in a comic strip does not justify it or minimize its negative impact.
