Greg is on the ball!I think it’s disgusting when we dress up pets in hallowe’en costumes, or as reindeer/santa dog… animals do NOT want to be made into little humans!
Yeah- now that we’ve bred a bazillion different dog breeds suited to one environment or another, and then scattered them around the world regardless of their adaptations, it was inevitable that they, like humans, would have to put on something to keep the chill off. Gets worse when you live in the desert… with a Husky. Now there’s a dog grateful for a shave…
Yeah we put a coat on our 12+yr old black lab. She certainly is grateful. And we had a coat for our younger dog when he was a puppy in the winter. Now he’s bigger than the lab, though, so he can handle the cold. Plus our little toy poodle had a sweater when he went out in the winter. Poor little guy would have frozen if he didn’t have a coat. So they do serve their purpose. The whole costume thing, though, I haven’t and never shall understand.
The Chihuahua needs a sweater here, but absolutely and unequivocally refuses to move while in one. Now, the hairier (and thermally protected by an abundance of fat) Schnauzzie does not need a sweater, but if you take it off, she ever so politely will bring it to you and drop it in your lap. She is a girly girl and loves her bows from the groomer, her collar, sweater and so on. The 3lb Chihuahua is so not a girly girl.
I wonder how counterproductive it is to point out that the comic strip today isn’t so much about dog clothes as it is about perceptions we make within a new context. Or at least I thought it was. I dunno.
Sorry Greg – we all seemed to have gotten side tracked with your six year old suddenly discovering his dog is nekked!!! (as are Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, ever notice Bugs and Daffy are only in feathers!!!).My story is the HUGE linebacker out walking this toy chichuahua (I’ve seen larger – this one was definitely tiny). She was wearing a cute quilted jacket with a fur lined hoodie. He gently adjusted the jacket while explaining to me that she’s older now and gets cold.

I’ll guess that if there was a fourth panel to todays comic. Eddie would be sitting naked alongside Dogzilla.

Or maybe he’d have put some nice underpants on poor ol’ Dogzilla. Underpants on a dog is a funny image.

Sure! Shall I mention The Prisoner in The Buckets, or send you an original or what did you have in mind?
