I’m sure Greg knew what he was doing. It’s well known among cartoonists that those two letters together look like “u” in comic strips. This is why you don’t give male characters a certain name, because it would look very vulgar in the strip for just this reason. (I’m too big a prude to say what name; don’t want you to have to wish you could un-see it.) The final frame of today’s strip more than winks at the double entendre, asking us “What?” about what we see in “flick” as well as portraying the mom’s reaction to her son’s clueless flicking of the tack back onto the sidewalk.
I used the word “Flick” because it’s a common term in the real world… and it used to be taboo (read: actually censored) to use it in any way in comic strips and comic books for precisely the reasons everyone seems so giddy about. “from across the room”? Why are you reading the comics from across the room? Anyhow, the word is ‘flick’, a word we all know and use… occasionally in tandem with the word “Booger” which might still be censored, but I doubt it.. If you wish to be giddy that it can resemble another word, then I’m glad you can be made giddy here at The Buckets.
And Llywus, it’s Friday. Hubris doesn’t run on Fridays any longer… unless I find a way to start drawing five originals a week instead of four. Feel free to offer suggestions. I’m listening.
Whew – I was worried that something had happened to it (black hole, MIB, dropped by GoC). I guess I hadn’t realized the shortened schedule. I’m not very observant that way, as my wife will testify.I’m happy and amazed that you can turn out two ’toons a week at all. If one of them has a shorter workweek so be it – even cartoonists deserve a beer break now and again.
I’m with Sarah. Though I think I would have gone for the child abuse panel and smacked Toby. .I learned a new thing at work this week. A helpful thing. And I am giddy with anticipation – I await with giddiness to apply my new knowledge.
