I did find it wise to bring along a few games (not video) or books to keep my sons from being bored during parts of vacations. They should be interesting enough the kids will use them when it is boring (like when you need them to wait quietly), but not so interesting that they won’t look out at the scenery. I still remember our sons’ reaction when we drove through the Rocky Mountains. Pictures just don’t come close.

We took our daughter and her family on a cruise to Alaska. The boys had a great time seeing things that even the tour operators rarely saw like whale bubbling. That was 7 years ago and they still talk about it.

Unfortunately, for a lot of kids today, if it isn’t on a video screen, it doesn’t matter.

Agreed boys.

If the boys like Denali ice cream, seeing Denali Park itself there in Alaska might be more interesting to them.

Typical boys. Bur they will be awed when they see the real thing. Three dimensions beats two any day.
