Snif. Hrm. What did you just do? What? Put some leftovers back. Why? I couldn't tell if they were good. So, the logic is that you'll be able to tell if they're good later? Well... Or they'll go bad enough to tell before you check again? Um... Or maybe next time you'll be hungry enough to eat it, bad or not? Is this about the slice of cake last week? No, that had a sign on it! Sarah's. Hands off.

He put it back in there for someone else to deal with it. BUSTED!

Maybe he didn’t notice the period after his wife’s name, and thought he was doing her a favor? If he ate the cake, she wouldn’t be tempted to eat it. (At least that sounds like the type of excuse my husband would give.)
I try to put leftovers in clear containers in the fridge. Much easier to see at a glance what it is, without having to open it. Some leftovers get put in the freezer. But yes, cleaning out the refrigerator (along with any other cleaning) doesn’t happen, unless I do it.

I think she missed the real reason he put it back: he could tell very clearly it was bad, but didn’t want to have to clean it up. I’m plenty guilty of that.
