Look! The fridge is packed to bursting with holiday leftovers! You know what this means. Mom won't buy any food until this stuff's gone. What'll we do?! We'll starve to death by the time it all goes bad!
Like the species I’m named after (with a “y”), I and my family eat leftovers. I guess this generation haven’t been given that “there are children starving overseas” speech.
Leftovers last a little longer than they used to in my house. There used to be 8 f us, including 4 boys, 2 girls, myself and their dad. Now dad has his house and I have mine . Two boys are away at college and didn’t make it home this year. The rest were here for Christmas, but only myself and the girls are home now so we have at least one more day of leftovers.
You could say I live on leftovers. Once a week I make myself a large meal and then portion it out to last through the rest of the week. I usually plan my meals by the month, this past month it was Pork roast week 1, lasagna week 2, pork stir fry week 3, and spaghetti week 4 (this week). I haven’t planned out the menu for next month yet but I’m sure it will be good.
Necessaty is the mother or organization. I don’t own a car and with my leg problems I wouldn’t trust myself behind the wheel if I did have one. Most of the month I get around by bus, but I can only carry so many groceries on the bus. Once a month some friends take me to the store in their suv and we do most of my shopping for the month so I have to plan for the month and keep most of it in the freezer, pulling it out to thaw for my big weekly meal.
Some dishes do taste better the next day; some of the South Beach Diet recipes say so, right before listing the ingredients and cooking directions. They’re right. My first thought for advising the Bucket brothers, though, was Larry and Sarah blindfolding them before their meals, and telling them they were eating something different than leftovers. You know how people can be more willing to eat something if they can’t see it, just taste it.

Leftovers are the best. I have no idea why no one here eats them.

That’s what freezers are for!

At my house, unless the meal was truly bad to begin with, the leftovers seldom last long enough to go bad.
