For a good many years, we gave our school-aged kids the cash, and let them choose their own presents at ToysRUs on Boxing Day. They LOVED it. Even if it meant that they might get fewer toys overall, at least THEY got to do the choosing. :)
We were setting all the receipts aside in one place. Mrs wanted a new mixer so I got one for her. She was going through the receipts, got to that one and I just let slip, without even thinking….That one is your mixer. OOOPS.I Just let her have it early so she could make all her Christmas goodies with it.
What a wonderful opportunity to hunt up some sales receipts for motorcycles, outrageously expensive jeans, the latest iPhones, and a few other extravagant gifts.
But if something’s broken or the wrong size, then you can’t return it. Just keep the receipts in your billfold with all your ATM and gas receipts that you never get around to recording in your register until after Christmas.

Just keep them aside for a week and throw out a bunch of receipts from the dollar store!

Don’t you have to keep the receipts in case someone wants to/needs to change presents?

All they have to do is log on Amazon and look at your purchase history now.

If the gifts are good, snooping spoils the surprise
If the gifts are lame, snooping extends the disappointment
No win situation

If the receipts are heat sensitive, hot water does the trick.
