My question is why do you lefties love him so. I am against totalitarianism in any form. I voted for the man, but I sure won’t make that mistake a second time.

Derf has it right, and Neo is distracting from the point: Bush started the police state, and Obama’s continuing it.

@ neo- So you’re going to vote for Bachman? The “lefties” as you put it, do not love Obama so. There is no real left in America, the progressive caucus of the Dems are primarily what used to be called centrists. The want to restore and expand the New Deal, the most successful era America, and the world has ever seen.. For that they get called socialists, but to the ignorant average American that means Marxism. While his criticism of Capitalism was dead on the mark, Marx was wildly over-optimistic about human nature, and virtually no one in the world is calling for elimination of private property and total state planning. The right has been using their ill-gotten gains to rewrite history for forty years. At this point they’ve got the media, the universities and a good chunk of the public in their pocket. Someone like Obama, who mouths the platitudes but won’t back it up is the best we can do. For now, but don’t expect the profit-extraction system masquerading as an economy to survive without the massive supplies of cheap oil that have propped it up. Marx was pretty close on one point, the capitalists would sell us the rope we’ll use to hang them, although I suspect we’ll just bust into Home Depot and take it.

Bush and Obama are both just new passengers on this bus… The Left wants the government to have more power to help the helpless. The Right wants the government to have more power to punish the bad guys. One way or another the government gets more power. It just so happened that a ‘law and order’ guy was in the office when the Towers went down and they jumped at the chance to pass the Suppression of Liberties Act. The results have turned out to be pretty much as anyone could have predicted.

There is a major league difference in approaches. Repulicans appoint Supreme Court Justices who believe shinola like absolute proof of innocence is not enough to overturn a conviction. No Democratic presidential nominee is ever going to buy nonsense like that. As far as searches are concerned, law enforcement has long been allowed to go through trash. If you’re worried about searches, check out the damage done to the 4th Amendment since Scalia and his homunculus Clarence got on the SC.

For me I dislike him because he is just plain inadequet for the task. Fancy slogans and charisma will not carry the day.

Chik, maybe that’s not how it’s supposed to be spelled, but that is how HE spells it :-)In either case, it’s “inadequate”.

I hate all politicians, regardless of their color OR political affiliations. (In fact, BECAUSE of their political affiliations!)
