Not really. 500 lbs of meat from a steer is a good average. A little more than 1/2 the weight of the animal is normal, most breeds of steers weigh in 800-1100 lbs

As I recall, the weight of lean meat from a steer is approximately 45% of his weight on the hoof. I’ll let you do the math.
