Presuming that Lance is in the northern hemisphere looking south, the moon’s appearance is consistent with that of a last-quarter moon seen shortly before sunrise. We could further conclude from how low the moon seems to be in the sky that the date is around the vernal equinox (March 21±) and his location is pretty far north pf the equator.

With the light on the left it’s a waning moon, so Lance and George are both right!
