It amazes that a song from the 60’s sung by a one-hit wonder would continue to be remembered primarily because it supposedly had some dirty lyrics. No one could agree what those lyrics were.
Us young one’s at that time thought we knew the dirty words of the Kingsmen’s version, but the recording was so poor and singer words were so muddled, you could hear an almost infinite number of lyrics. Paul Revere and the Raiders version outsold the Kingsmen version in the Pacific Northwest, but a lot of the lyrics were different. Also the Kingmen’s version went to number one because of the “dirty” words legend back in the 60’s.

oddly, the version of Louie Louie with the easiest to understand lyrics is the cover by Motorhead.
