well, that depends on which Edward. Is it one of the Edwards I through VI, or Edward Scissorhands, or Edward Bear, or just who? Never assume your music director is as dried up and withered as she might pretend to be during rehearsals and services. Take it from another music director and trust me on this one….
I lived (was imprisoned) for 3 months with Jesus freaks. The only other book to read (beside the obvious) was the Left Behind series. Series is the correct word because it might have made a TV series. I realized that most of the inmates, er worshipers had just got out of prison, out of psychological institutions, or were recovering from drug addiction. These books were written for their 9th grade education. Good might triumph temporarily over evil, but evil was always there (no not TV). But you know how a movie can be so bad it’s good (Invasion from Planet X)? These were hilarious.
Being poorly written tripe may be a good reason not to read a book, but not a reason to ban it. “Ban”, of course, means complete suppression of the printing and/or sale of a book, not the right of libraries not to shelve it or the right of schools to omit it from their courses (and those are two different things.)
Problematically, if a parent requests a book not be read to to age and topic issues, it should not be put on the banned book list. Case: I know why the cage bird sings. Wonderful book, but while the parent had no problems with his high school children reading the book, he didn’t feel his middle school child should read it at that time. It should not have gone on the banned book list for that.
Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys were not going to win any Pulitzers, but my teaching philosophy was “reading poorly written tripe is better than not reading at all.”
I don’t take book recommendations from Oprah (or anything else-she’s promoted many quacks that I’ve heard of on the news). I do like Dr Oz, but only found him because I watch news on weekends same channel.

If all the books that are poorly written tripe were banned, what would be left for Oprah to recommend?

Horribly written book like “Left Behind?” (horrible writing and theology all in one!)

I’m all for banning Oprah & people who pervert the teachings of a unique personage ( real or not…).

Banned bands can be poorly written tripe, too.
