D.C. Region: The obvious Superman-Batman setup is there, but there’s still some doubt lingering if it will happen. They do have an easy road to the Sweet 16.
Dark Horse: Captain Marvel. The Flash has a tendency to disappear for stretches of time.
Notable Snubs: Robin, Aquaman, Lex Luthor. All of them are scratching their heads, saying, “How did Jimmy Olsen get in?”
Marvel Region: Much closer and much more exciting with upsets abound, but this region was set up for Hulk to do what Hulk does best. The question: Is Ben Grimm overseeded?
Dark Horse: Spider-Man. Despite the efforts of coach Joe Quesada, Spider-Man has a real shot at making some noise in this tourney. At least until he meets the Hulk.
Notable Snubs: Iron Man, Cyclops, the Juggernaut. No matter who the selection committee put in, there was going to be a lot of griping. There were too many good cases and not enough spots.
Archie Region: For the guy who has his own region, he’s not doing a good job of showing us why. Not many experts have Archie making it to the Final Four. Some even have him making an exit in the Sweet Sixteen. Maybe it should have been the Riverdale Region.
Dark Horse: Cheryl Blossom. The third option in the Betty/Veronica rivalry looks to make some noise in the tourney and this game is the perfect opportunity.
Notable Snubs: None.
Newspapers Region: The weakest region in the tourney since the 1960s. Nearly all of the teams have the same base offense and defense, so any team that can throw any wrinkles into a game will coast. Calvin looks to be the runaway favorite, but Charlie Brown has a knack for surprising people before their eventual meltdown.
Dark Horse: Rat and Pig. They come into this tournament with a chip on their shoulder and an us-against-the-world attitude. Look for them to surprise a team or two with their gritty play.
Notable Snubs: Too many to mention. There’s even word of replacing the Newspapers region with the Internet region to make a stronger field. The Newspapers region would become the new NIT. Either way, Mona Montrois’ pleas of inclusion will fall on deaf ears, as always.
let’s cut to the chase. final four. Wolverine over Batman in triple OT, and Calvin over Jughead in a cakewalk, to set up the epic win for Calvin over Wolverine in the Championship. you just can’t bet against a sneaky six-year-old, especially when he has Calvin’s charm (and tiger). Hobbes’ influence was the deciding factor.
Superman vs. Calvin in the finals comes down tied in the closing seconds, and then Calvin pulls out some Green Kryptonite, Supe stumbles, and Calvin dunks for the win!
