The state budget is saved this year as the last smoker in Michigan, Billionaire Ted Ifyagottum agrees to a hundred million dollar a pack tax rate for 2037.

No sympathy from this ex-smoker. I am so glad all restaurants here are smoke-free.

Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a urinating section in the pool.

Most provoking thought here. Smoking has become harmful to diners. I suppose that is why my local diner closed and now I have to eat on an outdoor patio pricey eatery in its location.

In our state, the concern was not for other diners—they don’t get all that much exposure, and can choose not to patronize a place that allows smoking. It was the workers, who are there (nominally) 40 hours a week, and can’t avoid the smoking areas.

I quit smoking in 1993. Obama raised the taxes on cigarettes in 2009 as soon as he got into office (Democrats controlled both houses), so much more money was made by our beloved government from smokers. I do not mind other people smoking; I do mind that the government claims smoking is evil but still makes a ton of money from taxing it. If smoking kills people, then outlaw it. Oh, wait, no, then the government couldn’t get all that money from smokers. Never mind.
