To fishbulb239: The AKC only officially recognizes the breeds as purebred. It’s the parent breed clubs that come up with the standards. These standards have to be in place long before the breed is recognized. They are the ones that have to make amendments to it. But if there were laws against docking and cropping, with no exceptions, then they will have to change the breed standard in order to comply with the law. And yes, people should be careful about doors where their pets are concerned. If you’re too much in hurry, it’s your fault not that of the dog. Dogs were born with tails and ears and using the door excuse to justify removal is pretty poor. I would like to know what the excuse is for docking a horse’s tail is. Must be just as lame.
