Reminds me of two gerbils I’d had that would start chittering away any time I opened my fridge. It’d taken them little time to associate the fridge with an aspect of food for them.
We had a beagle once; no matter how silent you tried to be, day or night, she knew if you took one step in the kitchen and came trotting down the hall to stare at you like “can I have some?”
A couple of decades back, whenever I opened a can of tuna, I’d pour the “juice” into my dog’s food bowl. She quickly learned to come running any time she heard me open any can; before too long she learned to differentiate between the sound of me opening a small tuna can versus a regularly sized can, and would ignore the sound of any can other than a tuna can.

I think I recall that our dog didn’t like ice cream. Which is odd, since she ate virtually anything else.

This is the correct time of year to take your frozen peas and spill them on the ground. Then you will have peas on earth.

I’ve had critters like that.

Since when does a carton “rustle”. It’s usually the distinctive sound of the carton lid coming off. Oh, it’s quiet, but dogs can hear it.
