School Time Rock Boy: How do we elect our president? Box: Good question, sonny. Its called the electoral college, and its how we find the right person for the job! Our Founders made the system so the president is voted in by electors, Not the mob. Electors are statesmen, folks of analysis, discernment, and sincerity! They can override their state's vote if the people choose someone whose talents are "Of low intrigue and the little arts of popularity" Boy: Who said that? Box: Just a fella named Alexander Hamilton! To avoid the tumult and disorder of an unqualified disorder of an unqualified president, electors can use their judgment, independent.... ....or to thwart the "desire of foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant"! Boy: But wait! Electors voting for someone other than the winner of their state is....UNDEMOCRATIC! Box: I guess you're right. Its more democratic to give the presidency to the guy who got the second most votes! And remember: Donald Trump said he interprets the constitution the way the founders intended not according to modern conventions....
I figured out how to live with this atrocity for the next four years. I figured out how my mute button works. Course I still have to close my eyes or switch the channel to avoid nightmares.
