If I am close enough to someone to give them a gift, I will do active listening and know what they really want. I prefer to offer a surprise over something off a list. My child has picked up on my gift-giving style too. People usually mention things they want without really being aware of it. I also keep receipts, just in case.

i don’t think people think that (unless they’re very callous) — i think the recipient thinks that (“you’re going to buy me some useless junk”)
