Mr Kallaugher’s history of Sino-US relations is indeed abbreviated - it neglects such matters as US opium running in the early part of the 19th century, support for and participation in the various European wars against China later in the century, support for the corrupt regime of Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Kai Shek (蔣介石) during the civil war in China, etc, etc. REmember, it is not China that has surrounded the US with military bases and enormous military fleets, but the other way round. As for Tibet, it might be wise to remember that Tibet has been part of China for a longer period than the United States has existed. Anyone who thinks that Tibet «was the most peaceful nation on earth» hasn’t been studying his or her history….
