    II do not get this one. What is her favorite team? Why is 4-12 an insult?

    Also why would it imply that Dana is a racist?

    Only one team in the NFL was 4-12 last season, and that was the Kansas City Chiefs. It looks like his parents don’t like sports teams with Native American nicknames, or the fans of those teams for that matter!

    Edit: Missed the Redskins, and yes that would be more fitting!

    Washington Redskins were also 4-12 last season. I would guess that’s the team she’s referring to.

    @oriolesteffi. I missed the Redskins, but either way I guess his parents won’t be talking to her for a while.

    I’m pretty sure Dana’s favorite team is the Washington Redskins, who has a 4-12 (4 wins, 12 losses) season last year.

    That would be in line with the “racist” accusations.

    Dizzyspin I think you have the wrong sport. The game mentioned was Hockey. And I don’t recall any NHL team bad enough to get beaten 4 to 12. The scores just don’t run that high

    @hausof7mau

    She said that she was more of a football fan, so I believe she was talking about her favorite team in the NFL.

    Not only are the Redskins name and their former logo (and likely even the Chiefs name) bound to offend Kevin’s parents, but they’re already a hot-button issue around their hometown. To take sides is to offend a lot of people, not just dedicated activists. Washington has the biggest majority of Minority population among big US cities, so the racial respect issue is taken especially seriously there.

    I think the team should have a renaming celebration, but I think the past has to be accepted as a fact rather than censored. Historical relics are what they are, and at some point you just can’t sanitize everything anymore.

    Here in NYC the latest uproar was about renaming Petain Avenue, an obscure street, named after WWI, on which all of 2 houses sit. Neither longtime family wants to change the name of their street address. But the namesake French WWI hero dishonored himself in his dotage by collaborating ceremonially with the Nazi occupation during WWII, and now the City is suddenly determined (yes, 67 years late) to purge the name.

    The fact that both teams were 4-12 is insulting to the fans, no matter what their names are…

    What a coincidence that I’m checking the site 7 minutes after Chikuku.

    I agree that Petain betrayed his country and himself, but I think his value to the Nazis was sheer publicity value and nothing more. The man was way too doddering to help run the place (like Quisling) or to impart useful intelligence (like Arnold) - or even to really grasp what he was doing. He just liked right-wing ideology, pomp and flattery. Plus, he did wake up. After 1942 he didn’t even have a real title, and the Germans had to kidnap him in 1944 to keep him aboard. By then he was 88. I consider him pathetic.

    I say, let the residents keep their street name!
